About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Mental Health Therapist to join our team at Six Degrees Social Enterprise. As a key member of our team, you will work with adults experiencing common mental health issues, providing high-volume, low-intensity interventions under supervision.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide a range of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based guided self-management interventions to adults with common mental health issues.
  • Assess and support individuals with common mental health problems, promoting self-recovery and management of their recovery.
  • Foster good and trusting relationships with patients, undertaking patient-centred interviews and assessments to identify areas for change and recovery.
  • Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to departmental referral protocols and referring unsuitable patients to relevant services or back to referral agents as necessary.
  • Provide information and support for evidence-based high-volume, low-intensity psychological treatments, including guided self-help, computerised CBT, and information about pharmacological treatments.
  • Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary.
  • Manage a caseload of patients, attending multi-disciplinary meetings and working closely with other team members to maintain a stepped care approach.
  • Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process.
  • Attend and engage in regular supervision meetings, maintaining a mandatory training portfolio and applying learning from training received.
  • Stay up-to-date with advances in treatment for common mental health problems and maintain specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service delivery models/developments.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality is protected at all times.
  • Participate in the annual appraisal process, including objective setting, self-assessment of performance, and recognition of self-development areas.
  • Take responsibility for own development, including attendance at conferences and workshops, and keeping CPD records up to date.
  • Ensure utmost responsibility for patient care, including children, young people, and adults, including parents or carers.
  • Be alert to potential indicators of abuse or neglect in children and know how to act on concerns in line with organisational procedures and Salford Safeguarding Children Board procedures.
  • Ensure all safeguarding and other mandatory training remains up to date.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and subsequent legislation.
  • Ensure that information processed for both patients and staff is kept accurate, confidential, secure, and in line with the Data Protection Act and Security and Confidentiality Policies.
Person Specification

Qualifications:

  • Essential: PWP Qualification Certificate in Advance Practices in Mental Health Primary Care Pathway (APMHPC)
  • Desirable: MSc health-related degree, Psychology or other health-related undergraduate degree, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Qualification or qualified in a relevant psychological therapy/approach.

Experience:

  • Essential: Experience of working with people who have experienced mental health problems.
  • Desirable: Experience of working in Primary Care Services.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Essential: Passion and enthusiasm for the role, ability to undertake patient-centred interviews/assessments and support to promote self-recovery, high standards in written and verbal communication, ability to develop and understand facilitators and barriers to therapeutic relationships with patients, understanding of IAPT, anxiety, and depression, and how it may present.
  • Desirable: Ability to attend and apply relevant training, ability to be self-reflective in own personal and professional development, experience of working in Primary Care Services, ability to manage own caseload and work in a service with agreed targets in place demonstrating clinical outcomes, car driver or ability to demonstrate willingness to travel to locations throughout the locality area, fluent in languages other than English.
