Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the design process for railway electrification projects, ensuring compliance with Network Rail standards and company quality management systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design team in the creation, preparation, and modification of designs for railway electrification projects.
  • Ensure that designs meet agreed programmes and budgets, and are in accordance with Network Rail standards and company quality management systems.
  • Manage the interfacing of design teams with construction and commissioning teams for allocated electrification design and construct projects.
  • Assist in the determination of design scope and the preparation of valuation of design elements as part of the tendering process.
  • Undertake site surveys and maintain coordination of feasibility studies, outline and detailed design proposals.
  • Approve the work of design engineers and CAD technicians.
  • Manage the design process to ensure compliance with company design assurance and quality management systems.
  • Assist in maintaining design procedures to ensure they meet company quality and environmental procedures and current best engineering practice.
  • Undertake consultancy projects (feasibility, outline design, etc.) in the role of Senior Project Engineer.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in railway design and management, with a strong understanding of Network Rail standards and company quality management systems.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of engineers and technicians, and to work across conflicting interest groups to develop solutions to complex operational and commercial problems.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with knowledge of budgetary and financial control.
  • Ability to read contract requirements and implement technical requirements specified therein.
  • Advanced Office 365 skills, specifically Excel.
  • Strong people management skills, with a proven track record in tendering and managing standard/complex/major projects, including sub-contractors.
