Position Overview

Are you a skilled Electrician with a background in electrical trades?

We offer a comprehensive range of operational facilities repair and maintenance, minor projects, and capital project services across our healthcare facilities. We are seeking a qualified Operational Facilities Maintenance Technician (Electrical) to support both our internal team and external service providers in the upkeep and repair of our healthcare environment.

This is a permanent role with standard working hours from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM.

The successful candidate will also participate in the emergency on-call rota for the Operational Facilities Department outside of regular hours.

Main Responsibilities

Candidates should have completed a recognized apprenticeship in an appropriate discipline, preferably in electrical maintenance or installation. You should possess extensive knowledge of electrical and electro-mechanical systems, including HVAC, fire safety systems, and electrical distribution networks.

Additionally, you should demonstrate significant expertise in other maintenance areas beyond your primary trade skills. A willingness to engage in further formal or informal training to enhance your skills and knowledge is essential to ensure the highest standards of service for our patients, staff, and visitors.

This position will primarily be based at our main healthcare facility, but the technician will also provide support across our broader operational services.

Work Environment

The role will require you to operate in various areas of the Trust, including those designated as positive, asymptomatic, and negative COVID wards.

On-Call Requirements

Please note that senior roles may be expected to participate in an on-call rota if the position is primarily operational.

Job Duties

The technician will perform statutory testing and Planned Preventative Maintenance on electrical systems and equipment, maintaining accurate records. This role requires a thorough understanding of engineering systems, plant operations, and equipment within healthcare facilities.

The technician must be able to interpret and understand electrical technical drawings and specifications, assist in commissioning, troubleshoot issues, and communicate technical knowledge effectively to other trades and external contractors.

The technician will deliver a high-quality maintenance and repair service across a full range of building fabric, electrical services, plant, and equipment within their trade discipline and other areas of competence, utilizing precision instruments and equipment. This includes work on HVAC, fire safety systems, essential and non-essential power and lighting systems, electrical distribution networks, emergency generators, and equipment in critical areas.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Completion of a recognized electrical craft apprenticeship.
  • Qualification to a minimum of NVQ Level 3 (B-TEC ONC or CGLI Advanced Craft Level).
  • Completion of AM1 & AM2 assessments.

Desirable

  • Relevant qualifications or experience in a secondary trade.
  • Accepted qualifications by City and Guilds in sterilization and washer disinfection testing.

Experience

Essential

  • Two years of post-qualification experience in an engineering or building maintenance setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical supply and distribution systems.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in Estates & Facilities maintenance within an NHS acute hospital environment.
  • Knowledge of the safe operation of steam generating plants and associated equipment.
