The Operations Manager will report directly to the General Manager and will oversee the comprehensive management of site operations, ensuring the achievement of operational KPIs efficiently and professionally to align with the company's budgetary goals and growth aspirations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the performance and control of operations and staff to guarantee efficiency and continuity in compliance with all legal standards and budget constraints.
- Ensure the transport fleet and associated assets are utilized in a commercially viable manner.
- Supervise the effective management of warehouse operations.
- Analyze daily KPIs alongside forward planning and month-to-date and year-to-date assessments to maintain the lowest costs while meeting required service levels.
- Ensure site operations and procedures adhere to the company's Health & Safety policies and other legal requirements.
- Collaborate with key partners to implement effective health and safety initiatives and promote site SHEQ initiatives to minimize damage costs and incidents.
- Manage fleet requirements to ensure the appropriate mix of equipment is available to meet operational needs while adhering to legal standards.
- Oversee driver staffing and shift patterns, conducting periodic reviews to align with operational requirements.
- Develop and implement a recruitment, training, and development strategy to support succession planning and optimize talent retention.
- Continuously evaluate operations to reduce costs, enhance earnings per mile, and maximize revenue and profit.
- Calculate rates for new business opportunities in collaboration with the General Manager and Business Development Team.
- Ensure compliance with current legal requirements and prepare for upcoming legislative changes.
- Manage a continuous improvement strategy focusing on communication, damage cost reduction, and training to enhance driving efficiency.
- Oversee tachograph compliance and implement disciplinary measures in accordance with company policies when necessary.
- Lead initiatives aimed at driver attraction, retention, and engagement.
- Facilitate a fair and consistent review/appraisal process for team members at all levels.
- Maintain discipline standards within the department, ensuring adherence to company policies with HR support.
- Ensure effective application of the company absence policy.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated management experience in an FMCG setting.
- Familiarity with warehouse and transport planning systems.
- Understanding of FMCG industry principles, including cost structures and benefits.
- Experience in Customer & Supplier Relationship Management.
- Proven commercial and change management experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of major retailer supply chain requirements.
- Experience in consolidation and loading operations within the FMCG sector.
- Ability to build strong customer relationships.
- Knowledge of Continuous Improvement (CI) methodologies.
