About the Role

The National Trust is seeking a highly skilled Public Policy Officer to join our Government Affairs team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the Trust's policy influence and ensuring that our voice is heard in government decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build Relationships with Government Policy Makers: Establish and maintain strong relationships with government officials, ministers, and sector partners to promote the Trust's cause and influence policy outcomes.
  • Develop Policy Influence: Work closely with the Head of Government Affairs to develop the Trust's policy influence and impact, identifying opportunities and risks, and advising on potential policy changes.
  • Communicate Complex Information: Translate complex policy information into clear and concise language for a range of audiences, including government officials, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Support Policy Development: Contribute to the development of the Trust's policy views on planning, infrastructure, and the built environment, drawing on evidence from the Trust's experiences and working with expert colleagues.
Requirements
  • Experience in Public Policy: A strong understanding of the UK political system, government policy-making processes, and the ability to influence policy outcomes.
  • Relationship Building: Experience of building and maintaining positive internal and external relationships, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across different issues and priorities.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely to a range of audiences.
  • Policy Knowledge: A general awareness of current UK public policy relating to local planning and infrastructure.
