The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is seeking a talented software developer to join our team as an industrial placement student. As a member of our Accelerator Controls team, you will be responsible for developing web-based tools to support the operation of our particle accelerators.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop web-based tools to guide engineers in naming PVs (Process Variables) in our EPICS control system.
- Expand our existing prototype system to automatically create control screens from a list of PVs.
- Implement advanced features to generate more sophisticated screens to monitor whole areas of the accelerators at once.
- Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement.
- Required or have requested to take an industrial placement year.
- Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement.
- Able to commence employment in summer.
- A software development or computing discipline.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience programming in an object-oriented language such as JavaScript.
- Ability to work with other developers in a team.
- Ability to adapt based on feedback from other developers and users.
- Evidence of interest in web technologies and development frameworks, e.g. React.
- Experience with version control, e.g. git, and software development best practice.
