Position Overview
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Clinical Practitioner to join our expanding Respiratory service. This role is pivotal in enhancing our Pleural service, which has recently received significant investment. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the pleural clinical team to provide exceptional outpatient services, ensuring a high standard of care.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Clinical Practitioner will:
- Conduct thorough assessments and evaluations based on a specialized knowledge base, managing a personal caseload while supervising junior team members.
- Deliver independent and autonomous care in Pleural outpatient clinics and procedures.
- Engage in training and mentorship, ensuring the safe management of pleural procedures and appropriate patient referrals or discharges.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of systems and processes that facilitate patient flow.
- Stay informed about new treatments and technologies within the Respiratory field to maintain clinical development.
- Ensure accurate documentation and patient care records are maintained in accordance with Trust policies.
About the Role
The post holder will practice as an advanced clinical practitioner within the Respiratory service, focusing on the pleural service pathway. Responsibilities will include:
- Managing the Pleural service, encompassing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment within an agreed scope of practice.
- Systematically assessing and treating patients with pleural disease, including those with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations.
- Communicating effectively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure a cohesive approach to care.
- Acting as a role model for junior clinicians, demonstrating clinical excellence and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:
- A registered Nurse or HCPC Registered Health Care Professional qualification.
- Evidence of completion of an ACP MSc or an accredited portfolio of practice.
- Non-medical Prescribing certification and Advanced Life Support qualification.
- A minimum of five years of post-registration experience in an Acute Medical or Respiratory care setting.
Skills and Knowledge

- Strong team player with a commitment to advancing the practice agenda.
- Effective time management and confident IT skills.
- Ability to work under supervision and respond constructively to feedback.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of handling sensitive information.
