We are seeking a talented Culinary Specialist to enhance our care home services, ensuring that our residents receive nutritious and delicious meals daily.

Henderson House Care Home is located in a scenic coastal area, dedicated to providing outstanding standards of Residential, Nursing, Dementia, and Respite Care for up to 60 individuals across three levels.

Culinary Specialist (Bank) Contract

  • £12.00 per hour
  • Flexible zero hours contract to cover various absences

Importance of This Role

As a Culinary Specialist, your role extends beyond mere cooking; you will be creating meals that bring comfort, nourishment, and happiness to our residents. Your culinary skills will contribute to a warm environment where food is a highlight of the day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meal Preparation: Prepare, cook, and serve a variety of meals, ensuring they cater to the dietary requirements and preferences of our residents.
  • Menu Development: Collaborate with the Head Chef to design menus that offer a balanced and nutritious diet, utilizing fresh and seasonal ingredients.
  • Kitchen Oversight: Manage daily kitchen operations, ensuring food production is organized and within budget while maintaining exceptional cleanliness and hygiene standards.
  • Documentation: Keep precise records of food inventory and monitor storage temperatures to guarantee food safety and quality.
  • Inventory Management: Ensure proper stock rotation, assist with ordering supplies, verify deliveries, and conduct stock assessments as necessary.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Adhere to all Health & Safety regulations in the kitchen and dining areas, promoting a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Sanitation & Maintenance: Ensure all kitchenware and equipment are cleaned and stored correctly, overseeing the overall cleanliness of kitchen and dining spaces.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Culinary Credentials: City & Guilds 706 1 & 2, or an equivalent qualification (achieved or in progress).
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work cohesively within a team to achieve shared objectives.
  • Food Safety Knowledge: Basic Food Hygiene Certificate, demonstrating an understanding of best practices in food safety.
  • Effective Communication: Strong communication skills to engage with team members and comprehend residents' dietary needs.
  • Proactive Approach: Capability to work independently and take initiative in the kitchen when the Head Chef is unavailable.

Preferred Experience

  • Specialized Meal Preparation: Experience in preparing meals tailored to the specific needs of residents.
  • Experience in Care Settings: Previous experience in a care environment is advantageous but not mandatory.
