Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Research and Evaluation Consultant to join our innovative team at the London Borough of Islington.
This role is part of a collaborative initiative aimed at enhancing how local authorities collect, connect, and utilize evidence to guide decision-making, particularly concerning the broader determinants of health such as housing and environmental factors.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading evaluations and applied research projects, while also providing mentorship and guidance to team members in conducting evidence reviews, identifying research gaps, formulating evaluative questions, and analyzing and presenting findings.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead applied research and evaluation projects, collaborating closely with various departments.
- Provide expert advisory support to other departments on research and evaluation initiatives.
- Coordinate efforts across the council to address cross-cutting issues.
- Manage projects focused on gathering insights from local residents regarding their health and wellbeing.
- Conduct surveys and evaluations to support the development of local health services.
- Identify and address gaps in the evidence base related to health and wellbeing.
- Design and implement studies to gather perspectives from residents and organizations to inform policy development aimed at reducing inequalities.
- Develop systems for compiling quantitative and qualitative data from various sources to assess the health needs of the population.
- Innovate methodologies for evidence analysis and provide guidance on diverse research techniques.
- Ensure that service design and evaluation are informed by robust evidence.
- Present findings in a clear manner to facilitate understanding among diverse audiences.
- Contribute to the preparation of major grant applications for external funding.
Leadership and Management
Foster a positive culture within the team, embodying the values of the council and empowering colleagues to achieve their potential. Ensure that research conducted provides valuable insights for decision-making.
Financial Oversight
Maintain effective financial management and resource allocation to ensure value for money in all activities.
Compliance
Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory standards, identifying opportunities and risks as necessary.
Qualifications and Skills
We are looking for candidates with:
- Advanced knowledge of qualitative research methods and a solid understanding of quantitative analysis.
- Experience in conducting outcome evaluations and managing research projects.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.
- A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
