Job Title: Research Scientist for Machine Learning/LLM Role with ASSISTments Project
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join our team at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) to work on machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) research projects related to education. The successful candidate will have a strong background in machine learning, AI, and education, and will be responsible for managing the machine learning infrastructure behind the ASSISTments platform, learning and honing grant-writing skills, and working with our team to build out the infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the machine learning infrastructure behind ASSISTments, including developing and implementing new features and algorithms.
- Learn and hone grant-writing skills with Dr. Neil Heffernan, with the goal of increasing funding for related projects.
- Work with Dr. Heffernan's PhD students and their teams to build out the infrastructure.
Requirements:
- PhD in computer science, information sciences, or data science or a related field.
- Strong background in machine learning, AI, and education.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to target communication to various audiences.
- Experience coordinating cross-team projects, managing timelines and stakeholders, and strategizing creative solutions.
- Proactive, thoughtful, and entrepreneurial work style.
- Experience with the Google suite of office products and databases such as AirTable or GoogleSheets.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in K-12 education organizations.
- Experience working in a team environment.
