About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Design Engineer to join our team at Caterpillar, a leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines, and diesel-electric locomotives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop complex engine components, including major aluminium and cast iron castings, geartrain, valvetrain, drivetrain, and in-cylinder components.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure design solutions meet customer, durability, and functional requirements.
  • Determine root cause and develop solutions for complex issues arising from the Quality and Manufacturing environments.
  • Develop strong relationships with suppliers to ensure design solutions are aligned to high-quality and cost expectations.
  • Plan and manage project and sub-project deliverables, with the ability to lead and coach less experienced engineers.
  • Conduct risk assessments through effective FMEA generation on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs.
  • Maintain communication with peers, team leaders, and stakeholders on progress against planned activities.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience in design and development of complex engine components.
  • Strong technical background in mechanical or automotive engineering, with a minimum of 6 years of design experience in CAD.
  • Knowledge of IC engines, rotating systems, valvetrain, castings, lubrication, breather, and cooling systems, bolted joint, and sealing experience.
  • Experience with alternative fuels and spark-ignited engines.
  • Familiarity with the APQP methodology.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
