Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Lead for Speech and Language Services to join our team at Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing clinical leadership and expertise in the management of complex speech and language disorders in special schools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide highly specialist clinical input to special schools across Luton, coordinating a speech and language therapy service to children with complex communication and swallowing difficulties.
  • Manage a caseload of children with complex speech, language, communication, and/or eating and drinking (dysphagia) and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) needs.
  • Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for children with communication and swallowing impairments, providing written recommendations and ongoing support for implementation.
  • Attend and provide reports to Annual Reviews/Multi Agency Meetings as appropriate, communicating complex information clearly to patients, carers, and other professionals.
  • Provide guidance and whole-school training in functional communication, including receptive, expressive, and interactional skills, and contribute to relevant research, audit, and development work within the schools.
  • Take a clinical lead role in service development, actively contributing to the development of the SLT service in special schools, and work collaboratively with a wide range of professions across various locations and agencies.
Requirements
  • Recognized Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent, with registration with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Extensive and relevant experience post-registration in AAC and Complex Needs, with a broad knowledge of clinical disorders, assessments, and therapeutic interventions in the specialist field.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen well and counsel patients and carers, using observation, listening, and empathy.
  • Well-established knowledge of speech, language, and communication disorders associated with complex conditions and emotional/behavioral disorders, as well as feeding and swallowing difficulties associated with complex conditions.
  • Computer literacy and ability to use Makaton signing, if applicable.
