To support our bold objectives, Willmott Dixon is seeking to appoint a Director of Sustainability Strategy & Insights for a fixed term. This role will be based at our Head Office with flexible working arrangements available.

This pivotal position will spearhead the execution of our environmental sustainability goals, including achieving a zero-carbon footprint without reliance on offsets and eliminating avoidable waste by 2030. Additionally, this role will oversee the company's sustainability performance and compliance reporting, including frameworks such as TCFD and CDP.

You will report directly to the National Head of Sustainability and become a member of our Senior Leadership Team. By leading a diverse team of sustainability experts and collaborating closely with our Head of Sustainability Operations, you will engage with both our Construction and Interiors divisions to realize the objectives of 'Now or Never', while inspiring our workforce and connecting with our clients.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a dedicated team of sustainability professionals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the sustainability team and senior leaders across various functions to expedite the achievement of corporate targets, policies, and client needs.
  • Oversee sustainability performance reporting, enhancement, and verification processes.
  • Identify, develop, and implement initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions, waste, and water usage in alignment with corporate goals.
  • Formulate and execute strategies to support biodiversity and Environmental Net Gain objectives for both the company and its clients.
  • Provide expert guidance on a range of sustainability topics to clients, partners, and internal teams, including carbon management, waste reduction, and resource efficiency.
  • Conduct research and development, pinpoint opportunities, foster innovation, and enhance transferability to boost efficiency and win projects.

Essential Experience

  • Proven track record in building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Successful history of developing and implementing sustainability-related initiatives and projects.
  • Expertise in creating and managing data collection and reporting systems.
  • Ability to leverage data for performance enhancement.
  • Experience in educating stakeholders on environmental sustainability issues, including carbon and waste management.
  • Proficient in influencing senior stakeholders, including clients and supply chain partners.
  • Skilled in developing and executing a client-focused approach that addresses their needs.
  • Strong networking and communication abilities, capable of raising awareness among diverse stakeholders.
  • Competence in implementing and executing strategies that unify and engage others.

Required Qualifications

  • Comprehensive understanding and practical experience in various sustainability topics, particularly carbon and waste reduction.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex information.
  • High energy and self-motivation, with a proven ability to identify, develop, and implement effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strategic thinker with attention to detail.
  • Able to inspire and motivate team members.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Relevant level 4 qualification (HNC/NVQ4 or equivalent).
  • Valid driving license.
