As the Lead Cost Estimation Specialist, you will be instrumental in assisting the Senior Commercial Manager in achieving the strategic goals of the organization by employing a cohesive and consistent methodology to cost estimation, ensuring adherence to industry best practices across all projects.
Your role will involve delivering precise preliminary financial assessments and cost frameworks, which are crucial for effective budget management, preventing financial overruns, and ensuring the successful execution of projects within the designated financial parameters.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist the Senior Commercial Manager in developing and regularly refining processes and protocols for cost estimation, benchmarking, and cost targeting, with an emphasis on contemporary best practices.
- Support project teams in the practical application of estimation and benchmarking processes.
- Utilize standardized templates for presenting financial estimates and cost frameworks to stakeholders, ensuring thorough and clear communication.
- Ensure all financial estimates adhere to a uniform cost breakdown structure, promoting consistency throughout the project lifecycle.
- Oversee the use of cost management frameworks to enable transparent financial comparisons throughout the project lifecycle, including evaluations against contractor tender submissions.
- Design, develop, implement, and maintain standardized templates within the Integrated Benchmarking & Estimating tool to articulate the foundation of estimates, encompassing essential assumptions, omissions, allowances, and risk considerations.
- Foster relationships with other airports and client organizations, creating a collaborative environment that shares data to establish a range of external benchmarks, supporting value and capital efficiency demonstrations.
- Define and regularly generate metrics to assess the cost-effectiveness of project estimates.
- Degree level education or equivalent in a relevant field such as engineering, construction, or business.
- Proven experience as a Cost Planner or Senior Estimator (or similar role) on multi-year projects with values typically exceeding £50m in a relevant sector.
- Experience in designing business processes for cost estimation, including the implementation of standardized Cost Breakdown Structures, preferably within a high-performing or best-practice project delivery organization.
- Experience in delivering infrastructure projects within a live operational context is highly desirable.
