Job Overview

We are seeking dedicated, passionate, and skilled professionals to become part of our collaborative team within the Critical Care division at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a replacement role, and the successful candidate will join a team of 10 Consultant Intensivists, contributing to the Critical Care Unit. The role includes participation in a 1:10 on-call rota for critical care. Those without a CCT in anaesthesia are encouraged to apply, and we will strive to create a suitable job plan that aligns with their expertise. We are open to flexible or part-time applications.

Our Gold Welcome Package features a relocation incentive of £7000, an additional £20,000 lump sum, and extra 'SPA' time for the initial 24 months as a token of appreciation for joining our team.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the post-holder will be at the Colchester General Hospital, with occasional requirements to work in other areas of the Trust.

The essential duties and responsibilities include:

Engaging in the dedicated CCU on-call rota alongside fellow colleagues Providing daytime coverage for Critical Care and supporting the Outreach service Demonstrating a keen interest in Critical Care Medicine Flexibly covering theatre sessions and allied specialties. Applicants without a CCT in Anaesthesia are welcomed, and we will work to create a job plan that reflects their skills. Actively supervising and managing junior medical staff, including formal teaching and clinical audits Participating in the appraisal and assessment of junior medical staff and undergraduates, as well as conducting clinical audits as directed by the Unit Training Director Teaching and training staff across various medical disciplines, nursing, and support staff as appropriate Fully engaging in the clinical incident reporting system

Job Responsibilities

The post-holder will:

Collaborate with colleagues to provide a Consultant-led service that meets the highest standards of care Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines Establish and maintain effective working practices Foster strong working relationships with colleagues, other departments, and primary care Provide educational, clinical support, and leadership to junior medical staff, nursing colleagues, and other members of the multidisciplinary team Ensure staff have access to relevant information to assess clinical performance and establish meaningful benchmarks within their area of responsibility Implement a robust process for reviewing service quality, identifying causes of success and failure, and maintaining high standards Serve as a professional leadership role model, embodying the corporate values and behaviors of the organization, ensuring these are understood and demonstrated by the medical workforce, and taking corrective action where necessary Ensure junior doctors' training aligns with College requirements Participate in the appraisal of medical staff within the department according to the Trust's agreed policy

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

CCT/CCST or eligibility for the Specialist Register for ICM and Anaesthesia (or Emergency Medicine or Acute Medicine) or within 6 months of the interview date. Advanced Training in Intensive Care Medicine as defined by FICM or equivalent. Capability to provide expert clinical opinions on a variety of issues concerning both emergency and elective patients within the ICM specialty Confidence in the initial management and stabilization of children requiring intensive care Ability to lead and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team Proficiency in organizing and prioritizing work effectively and contributing to departmental organization Evidence of commitment to teaching undergraduates, postgraduates, nursing staff, and other AHPs. Understanding of NHS management structure to fulfill the consultant role and its associated clinical management responsibilities Willingness to work the required hours and provide out-of-hours on-call cover, with reasonable adjustments for local requirements.

Desirable Qualifications
