We are seeking a Director of Product Strategy who possesses extensive experience in product management and leadership. This role involves mentoring, coaching, and managing both new and seasoned senior product managers to ensure exceptional performance. You will advocate for Government Digital Service Standards.

You will report directly to the Head of Product Design and collaborate closely with the Head of User-Centered Design and the Head of Analysis. Additionally, you will engage with other Digital and Technology leaders and non-digital stakeholders to collectively achieve our strategic objectives.

Our hybrid working model promotes a healthy balance between office presence and remote work, allowing flexibility in how you operate to maintain a fulfilling work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Digital and Technology leadership team to strategize, allocate resources, and prioritize tasks.
  • Assist the Head of Product Design in establishing the strategy and operational frameworks for Product Design and Digital and Technology.
  • Lead and empower Senior Product Managers and Product Managers to work effectively with their service delivery teams.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to both new and existing Senior Product Managers and Product Managers.
  • Set the vision and standards for effective product management, ensuring the team receives the necessary training and development.
  • Work alongside Service Owners, Senior Responsible Owners, and Workstream Leads to drive strategic initiatives and roadmaps.
  • Coordinate with the Head of Agile Delivery and Head of Product Design to manage product management resources.
  • Support third-party delivery partners, assisting in commercial engagements and procurements, and preparing statements of work.
  • Promote and advocate for GDS Service Standards, Accessibility standards, and technical standards to both digital and non-digital stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure initiatives are cohesive and contribute to organizational business plans and strategies.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a Director of Product Strategy who is an inspiring leader with a proven track record of guiding product managers through transitions. You should excel in communication, capable of articulating complex ideas to non-digital stakeholders. Strong stakeholder management skills and experience in collaborating across various business sectors are essential for delivering successful outcomes.

Ideal candidates will have substantial product management experience, particularly in leading and developing senior product managers. A passion for nurturing talent and facilitating professional development opportunities is crucial. Experience in recruiting both permanent and contingent product managers and supporting delivery partners to achieve desired results is also required.

You should be user-focused, ensuring that the services we provide lead to successful user outcomes. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and best practices, along with the ability to instill this mindset within product management teams, is essential.

Experience Requirements

  • Proven experience in leading, managing, and coaching Senior and Product Managers.
  • Successful delivery of digital services to users in fast-paced, complex environments.
  • Strong senior stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience in delivering products or services utilizing Agile methodologies.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the product lifecycle, from Discovery to Live.
