Principal Systems Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Systems Engineer to join our Materials and Mechanical Metrology department at NPL. As a key member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on a range of instrumentation and metrology projects, providing technical expertise that informs our strategy and shapes our site infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of system requirements and manage the overall system architecture.
  • Develop and implement design specifications, conducting design activities and completing technical analyses and investigations.
  • Review and agree on external and internal interface documents, managing interface baselines and applying end-to-end systems analysis and modelling.
  • Derive and manage technical budgets and tolerances, developing instrument performance models and manufacturing and alignment tolerances.
  • Manage the assembly, integration, and testing of systems and sub-systems, ensuring compliance with requirements.
  • Deliver complex hardware and software systems, planning and coordinating internal and external reviews and reviewing and signing off associated documentation.
  • Liaise with other specialists to ensure performance is maintained and requirements are met throughout the instrument development lifecycle.
  • Generate and review technical proposals, providing accurate estimates for effort, costs, and risks.
