About the Role

Barings is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Associate Director to join our Global Public Delivery team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supporting the Global Emerging Markets and High Yield team in meeting their main responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Portfolio Oversight and Fund Accounting: You will be responsible for full ownership and responsibility for a number of various open-ended funds (QIAIF and UCITs), and separately managed accounts, from a global perspective. This includes daily oversight and management of the funds, ensuring daily/monthly NAVs are sent out on time, coordinating internal resources to correspond/reconcile external third-party information and the subsequent reporting packages.
  • General Support: You will provide general support for traders and portfolio managers, cash management oversight, and operational issue resolution.
  • Third-Party Administrator Oversight: You will oversee outsourced third-party administrators and internal parties to ensure a high level of service. You will raise service issues in an appropriate manner and follow up on issues to resolution.
  • Client Mandates and Regulatory Restrictions: You will maintain awareness of client mandates, portfolio governing documents, and regulatory restrictions. You will coordinate and process instructions for payment of fund expenses.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Liaising with Internal Stakeholders: You will liaise with internal stakeholders, including portfolio managers, analysts, business development in both the UK and US, for investment and operational queries.
  • Liaising with Third-Party Administrators: You will liaise extensively with third-party administrators and other service providers, including annual site visits and KPI service level meetings.
  • Interactions with Product Structuring, Investment, and Legal Teams: You will interact with product structuring, investment, and legal teams on fund queries, budgeting, and expense monitoring. You will also be involved in new fund launches and liaise with internal reporting and tax teams to ensure the smooth running of the year-end audit and tax processes in various jurisdictions.
  • Legal Documentation and Process Enhancement: You will have a detailed understanding and interpretation of legal documentation, including prospectus, investment guidelines, IMA, credit, and other third-party agreements. You will oversee and enhance the team's framework of monthly and quarterly processes/controls as appropriate.
  • Project Coordination: You will coordinate projects and testing undertaken in accordance with agreed project timescales for initiatives within Global Public Delivery and the broader firm.
Requirements
  • Significant Experience: You will have significant experience working in fund management, preferably within public fixed income, in a comparable-sized organization with similar interactions and challenges of a larger business.
  • Proactive and Analytical Skills: You will be proactive and able to work with minimum supervision. You will have the essential skill to think outside the box and see the bigger picture, focusing on not only BAU but also process enhancements.
  • Relationship Building: You will have the ability to develop and maintain relationships with key internal Barings stakeholders, including direct exposure to other business lines, such as portfolio managers, sales, legal, compliance, and corporate functions across the organization, both in Europe and the US.
  • Technical Skills: You will have significant experience of analyzing and providing query resolutions, managing TPA relationships, and resolving operational issues. You will be a clear communicator, both verbally and written, for both internal audiences and external clients. You will have the ability to work to tight deadlines and be flexible to meet workload.
  • Accounting Experience and Excel Skills: You will have accounting experience and advanced Excel skills.
