Position Overview

The Medical Illustration Photography Service is looking for a dedicated professional to join their team at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. The ideal candidate should possess a degree in Photography or have equivalent expertise and experience in digital imaging. This role is essential in delivering a high-quality photographic service to the Trust, with responsibilities spanning studio work as well as on-site photography in various clinical settings.

The successful applicant must demonstrate strong teamwork abilities while also being capable of working independently when necessary. Experience in ophthalmic photography is advantageous but not mandatory, as comprehensive training will be provided in this area. The role requires travel across multiple hospital sites and local community practices, thus having personal transportation is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

The primary duties include:

  1. Conducting clinical photography with precision and efficiency in both studio and on-location settings, including wards, outpatient clinics, and operating theatres.
  2. Performing general ophthalmic photography utilizing a retinal fundus camera.
  3. Executing diabetic retinal screening photography with a non-mydriatic camera.
  4. Providing guidance to Trust staff regarding consent, confidentiality, and relevant legislation.
  5. Ensuring that all photographic work adheres to high professional standards and confidentiality protocols.
  6. Maintaining quality assurance within the department.
  7. Supporting the Medical Illustration Service in enhancing departmental and organizational objectives.
  8. Offering explanations of photographic procedures to patients and their families, including those who may be emotionally distressed or have language barriers.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • A degree in Photography.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in Medical Photography.
  • Graduate certificate in Medical Illustration.

Testing Requirements

All candidates must complete a basic medical photography assessment as part of the selection process.
