Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Engineer - Safety Expert to join our team at BAE Systems. As a key member of our Safety and Environmental team, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, integrating, managing, and supporting complex systems and combat sub-systems for in-service and future submarines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake technical/design reviews and provide technical direction to engineers to ensure the highest standards of safety and quality.
  • Articulate and document subject expertise, approaches, and standards to extend business knowledge and support the development of individuals and teams.
  • Define qualification obligations for assurance hold points during build, test, and commissioning, and provide assurance to the Design Authority on the adequacy and robustness of the Safety Case and supporting documentation.
  • Undertake functional design and/or provide qualification and evidence for acceptance, fitness for purpose, legislative requirements, and safety.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure their requirements are adequately supported and their needs are fully considered and incorporated where appropriate.

Requirements:

  • A detailed and comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles relating to an area within an engineering discipline.
  • Significant experience and ability to apply knowledge to a wide range of engineering issues within own discipline and other engineering disciplines.
  • CEng level or equivalent level of capability.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience within a team, project, or discipline, recognised by others as a source of authoritative knowledge and sought out for advice and mentoring.
  • Knowledge within the Submarine or defence industry.
  • Knowledge of Design, Manufacturing, assembly, Commissioning, and testing submarines lifecycle phases.
