Position Overview

Job Title: Geriatric Medicine Consultant (Locum)

Weekly Commitment: 40 hours

Contract Type: Fixed Term - 12 months

Role Summary

The organization is seeking to recruit consultant physicians who possess a robust background in Geriatric medicine and a genuine enthusiasm for enhancing elderly care services. We are in search of a candidate who is passionate about innovation and service improvement as we develop essential elements of a cohesive care system for elderly patients.

This role will contribute to the establishment of an acute frailty service and will offer clinical leadership in the strategic enhancement of this service, aimed at improving care delivery for elderly patients in the region. We are currently focused on advancing our initial frailty service to ensure that elderly individuals can be swiftly evaluated and treated, minimizing the necessity for hospital admissions whenever feasible.

Key Responsibilities

The organization has recently launched a Consultant Foundation Programme, overseen by the Medical Director along with both internal and external mentors, with the following objectives:

  • To increase awareness of the consultant's role and their significant influence on team dynamics.
  • To explore methods for delivering safe and effective care within a broader clinical and organizational context.
  • To understand how to navigate the NHS landscape successfully, balancing targets and financial considerations with collaboration across various agencies.

The successful candidate will receive comprehensive support from the wider Elderly Care team, which includes five established consultants, two registrars, three house officers, two senior house officers, four advanced clinical practitioners, three physician associates, four clinical nurse specialists, and dedicated administrative support.

The organization is committed to the principles of continuing professional development (CPD) as outlined by the General Medical Council and relevant colleges, providing both time and financial resources for these activities. We are flexible employers willing to consider work patterns that accommodate individual needs, particularly in promoting a healthy work-life balance.
