Position Overview

We are pleased to announce a remarkable opportunity for a skilled Registered Nurse to join our esteemed Hospital at Night team. This role involves collaborating with a dedicated group of nine seasoned practitioners and one healthcare assistant to deliver exceptional out-of-hours support across both medical and surgical departments.

In this position, you will be responsible for offering expert advice, support, and education to fellow nursing staff and junior medical professionals.

Your work schedule will follow a rotational shift pattern, which includes:

- 18:45 to 07:45, seven days a week

- 07:00 to 20:00 on weekends and public holidays

- 12:00 to 00:00 on Wednesdays

Key Responsibilities

  • Addressing urgent clinical situations in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to ensure timely support and effective clinical evaluation/treatment.
  • Consistently providing high-quality patient care, ensuring that clinical management plans are established and regularly assessed.
  • Upholding advanced skills and knowledge in the assessment of patients requiring escalation, including comprehensive history taking, clinical examination, initiation of diagnostic tests, and interpretation of results.
  • Advancing and maintaining professional practice in accordance with nursing professional standards.
  • Performing procedures such as cannulations, venepuncture, catheterization, and 12-lead ECG recordings, while also mentoring staff in acquiring these skills.
  • Collaborating closely with the Clinical Site Manager to address any challenges that may arise.
  • Overseeing the PatientTrac escalation system, ensuring that tasks are assigned and completed efficiently and promptly.

We are open to considering a trainee position for candidates who may not possess advanced clinical examination skills or prescribing qualifications, provided they meet other essential criteria for the role.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with the NMC
  • Degree-level education or in progress
  • Completion of a Clinical Examination skills course/module at degree level
  • Qualification in mentoring and teaching or equivalent
  • ALS Provider certification
  • Registered Independent Nurse Prescriber
  • Evidence of relevant and recent Continuing Professional Development (CPD) excluding mandatory training

Desirable Qualifications

  • Participation in a Clinical Leadership program

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrated ongoing relevant professional development
  • Recent experience (within the last 12 months) managing acutely unwell patients
  • Evidence of advanced clinical skills in acute care
  • Involvement in service improvement initiatives and change implementation
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and its relevance to practice
  • Familiarity with relevant policies and procedures
  • Experience in multi-professional teaching and assessing clinical skills/knowledge/competence in the workplace
  • Experience in collaborative working with multidisciplinary teams

Desirable Experience

  • Post-registration experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Experience as part of a Hospital at Night/Medical Emergency Team/Critical Care Outreach Service
  • Leadership and management experience in a team/service
  • Knowledge of ethical issues in clinical practice
  • Involvement in research and development in clinical practice
