Key Responsibilities
This role presents a remarkable opportunity for those looking to expand their expertise and advance their career in taxation. Ideal candidates will be part or newly qualified ACA/CTA (or equivalent) with solid experience in corporate or mixed tax.

The UK Tax Specialist will play a vital role within the Partners' Affairs and Tax (PAT) team. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Senior UK Tax Manager to manage the UK (direct and indirect) tax obligations of the Allen & Overy group, ensuring compliance with all statutory deadlines and minimizing compliance risks.

The PAT team is responsible for delivering high-quality tax guidance and relevant information to decision-makers within Allen & Overy, ensuring adherence to laws and regulations while providing efficient service. This position will also involve supporting the team in offering clear and precise tax advice to business stakeholders on various tax-related issues.

This role is best suited for individuals with substantial corporate/mixed tax compliance experience, currently operating at the 'newly qualified' to 'tax senior' level or equivalent. Applications from part-qualified candidates with demonstrable experience in a tax team and strong technical corporate tax skills will also be considered. Study support may be available for completing a relevant qualification, and there is significant potential for career development in this position.

  • Preparation of Partnership tax computations, encompassing the global 'Trading Income' of primary LLP entities (profits exceeding £500m).
  • Preparation of UK tax computations for various UK and non-UK Partnerships, ensuring timely submission of tax returns.
  • Preparation of corporate tax and governance returns, including SAO, for the Group's subsidiary corporate entities.
  • Key involvement in the year-end closing process, including assisting in Deferred Tax calculations.
  • Support in tax accounting and preparation of tax notes for disclosure in the firm's statutory accounts.
  • Completion of VAT returns, including management and reconciliation of VAT accounting.
  • Advising partners and finance teams on intricate VAT matters.
  • Participation in various projects, such as tax digitalization, capital allowances, employment tax aspects, and business structuring.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in preparing UK tax computations.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficient IT skills, particularly in Excel.
  • Ability to analyze and communicate complex technical tax and accounting issues, providing clear and accurate advice to non-specialists (previous VAT experience is not mandatory, but UK corporate tax experience is essential).
  • Experience in submitting corporate and partnership tax returns online using tax software packages, including Alphatax and CCH Personal Tax or similar.
  • The role requires effective communication and relationship-building with partners, external tax advisors, finance teams, and other support functions.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to foster strong relationships with PAT team colleagues and others in London and Belfast, as well as with colleagues in other global teams.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of tax issues affecting professional partnerships is advantageous.
  • An appropriate professional financial qualification, such as CTA/ACA/ACCA/ATT or equivalent experience, is essential.
