About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Programme Director to lead our Policy Research Programme, driving strategic initiatives and influencing science, policy, and practice in the health and care sectors. The successful candidate will work closely with our partners, including the Department of Health and Social Care's Science, Research, and Evidence Directorate, to maximise the impact of commissioned research on national policy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to review and enhance the Policy Research Programme strategy, ensuring alignment with broader NIHR objectives.
  • Develop and maintain oversight of the PRP portfolio, ensuring policy relevance, academic direction, and alignment with DHSC priorities.
  • Manage complex relationships with contract holders and stakeholders, promoting the PRP and NIHR to address underserved policy areas.
  • Oversee commissioning, management, and delivery of research projects, advising on operational improvements and enhancing the profile and impact of NIHR PRP through engagement.
  • Develop and oversee PRP's research prioritisation processes, expanding the pool of research suppliers and resources.
Requirements
  • Proven experience at the policy/research interface and translating evidence into policy.
  • Strong knowledge of the UK health and care policy landscape.
  • Leadership in complex, multi-stakeholder programmes.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Strategic thinking with strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
