ABOUT THE POSITION: Are you dedicated to enhancing library collections to foster academic success and research excellence? This position requires collaboration with various library units to evaluate, select, and procure both digital and physical resources. As a Collection Development & Acquisitions Librarian, you will be instrumental in formulating policies and procedures that ensure a well-rounded library collection.
Key Responsibilities:
Collection Assessment and Development:
- Analyze data to inform decisions regarding library resources.
- Utilize tools such as Alma Analytics, Greenglass, and Gold Rush for effective collection development.
- Establish and oversee title selection strategies like PDA and DDA.
- Monitor pricing and usage metrics for electronic journal packages and databases.
- Address resource requests from faculty, students, and staff promptly.
Management of Collection Procedures and Acquisitions:
- Implement selection and acquisition tools efficiently.
- Curate resources based on academic requirements.
- Oversee the library's acquisitions workflow.
- Provide training on effective resource acquisition methods.
Collaboration with Research and Instruction Teams:
- Regularly discuss community resource needs.
- Collect and analyze feedback to enhance library services.
Planning and Budget Management:
- Allocate and manage the budget judiciously.
- Ensure effective budget utilization in consultation with leadership.
Negotiation of Pricing and Licensing for E-Resources:
- Maintain vendor relationships to secure favorable pricing.
- Administer digital licensing processes.
- Stay informed about trends in scholarly publishing.
Administration of Gift in Kind Program:
- Identify and pursue opportunities for gifts.
- Manage donations for the library collection.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation and external standards.
Engagement in Library and Community Activities:
- Provide services to library patrons.
- Collaborate on library programs and initiatives.
- Contribute to institutional committees and projects.
- Promote professional development through continuous learning.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science.
- 2-3 years of experience in library collection development.
- Understanding of current trends in library collections.
- Operational experience with online library systems.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in ExLibris Alma Library Management.
- Familiarity with STEM research and education.
- Previous experience in an academic library setting.
- Knowledge of open access publishing practices.
Salary Range: Anticipated $68,000 - $74,000 based on qualifications and experience.
Location: Worcester, MA (partially remote work options available)
