About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Insurance Coverage Lawyer to join our Litigation team in London. As an Associate General Counsel - Litigation, you will provide expert legal advice on insurance coverage matters, working closely with our claims handlers and senior management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop comprehensive coverage analyses and litigation strategies, considering the impact on our claims book and business.
  • Provide general legal advice to our complex and multi-jurisdictional Claims organization, including regulatory and claims vendor contracting matters.
  • Communicate effectively with key stakeholders, including claims handlers and senior management.
  • Participate in the development of litigation management systems and processes.
  • Oversee the selection and management of outside counsel and litigation vendors.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and resource to other units across our global insurance platform.
  • Report on significant case developments and litigation trends to senior management and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide hands-on management for high-profile matters and manage external counsel across a broad spectrum of claims-related litigation/arbitration matters.
Requirements
  • International coverage experience, including coverage litigation, arbitration, and mediation.
  • Legal credentials, including a degree with high academic achievement and solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales or UK barrister.
  • Able to understand all facets of claims and apply that knowledge to the global claims organization.
  • Able to provide assistance with amending and drafting policy wordings from a legal perspective.
  • Research and analysis skills, including the ability to deliver crisp, targeted, and on-point analysis in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic thinking, including the ability to visualize what doesn't exist and know how to get there.
  • Leadership skills, including the ability to coach, train, set expectations, evaluate, and hold people accountable for delivering results in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Drafting skills for both internal notes and external communications.
  • Overseeing e-discovery as and when required.
  • Cross-border teamworking, including the ability to act independently.
  • Mental agility, including the ability to turn ideas on their heads.
  • Communication and negotiation skills, including excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Passion for results, including the ability to work tenaciously to achieve outstanding results.
Desired Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in another European language.
  • In-house experience with a specialty (re)insurer and experience of managing litigation inside and outside the UK.
