Job Title: Apprentice Laboratory Assistant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Apprentice Laboratory Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our Tankered Waste Team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient receipt of tankered trade and domestic waste loads at our sewage treatment works.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct simple lab analysis on samples prior to acceptance.
  2. Complete all necessary paperwork and electronic records, including Duty of Care and transportation documentation.
  3. Ensure consistent and effective process for acceptance or rejection of loads to protect STW's assets and processes.
  4. Operate waste discharge tanks onsite, calculating discharge rates in line with site performance.
  5. Liaise with site operational staff on a daily basis.
  6. Work from multiple STW locations to perform duties related to Tankered Waste operations.
  7. Record and compile data, produce reports, and support the delivery of relevant SLAs/KPIs.
  8. Perform other sampling duties as required, including domestic waste.

Requirements:

  1. New entrant position; experience in the water or waste industry is advantageous, but training will be provided.
  2. Knowledge/experience of IT systems, including Microsoft Word and Excel, is advantageous.
  3. Awareness of the water or waste industry and wastewater processes is highly beneficial.
  4. Experience of customer interaction and/or tanker drivers would be advantageous.

Capabilities:

  1. Ability to work unsupervised and manage competing requirements and activities.
  2. Capable of following predefined processes while showing attention to detail and interest in improving processes.
  3. Ability to effectively deal with customers/drivers and integrate into site operational teams.
  4. Ability to work effectively with site operations and network control.
  5. Able to work on a flexible shift pattern and drive to other sites within the Severn Trent area.

Qualifications:

  1. Ideally qualified in a scientific discipline, such as chemistry, biology, or environmental science, to a degree level.
  2. Suitable operational experience/qualifications related to sewage treatment works operations may be an acceptable alternative.
  3. Full valid UK driving license.
