We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Advanced Biomedical Scientist to join our Blood Transfusion Department at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for applying and disseminating their specialist knowledge and practical experience to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the department.
Main Responsibilities- Perform complex examinations of clinical specimens in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures, including interpretation of results, in an efficient, effective, and safe manner.
- Provide expert advice and interpretation of laboratory investigations to healthcare professionals as required or for referral to specialist medical and scientific advisors.
- Monitor internal and external quality control results, taking appropriate action to identify and correct problems.
- Continually review performance against key performance indicators (KPIs), proactively addressing areas of concern.
- Contribute to the future planning and organization of the service by reporting issues, problems, and trends to senior management.
- Work independently and manage own workload, adhering to local and national standards within the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) professional code of conduct.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
- State Registered BMS (HCPC) with completion of the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) Specialist Portfolio or equivalent.
- MSc or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
- Demonstrated highly specialized or expert knowledge in the chosen field, such as attendance at scientific symposia or short courses.
- Commitment to continuing education and training.
- Research, development, or audit qualifications/experience.
- Other relevant qualifications or knowledge gained through short courses, such as scientific symposia or internal training.
- Ability to demonstrate team-building and leadership skills.
- Awareness of NHS financial and administrative systems.
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Present complex scientific information to colleagues and externally when required.
- Make judgments involving a range of complex facts or situations, requiring analysis and interpretation of options.
- Carry out staff planning and participate in out-of-hours rosters or flexible working arrangements.
The Blood Transfusion Department is a dynamic and fast-paced environment, with a strong emphasis on quality, safety, and patient care. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with the Quality Management Team and contribute to the ongoing development of the department.
