Position Overview

We are seeking Advanced Clinical Fellows to join our team, offering valuable training opportunities at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. The roles will primarily focus on the geriatric medicine specialty, with chances to gain diverse experience across various medical fields, including Respiratory, Endocrine, and Acute medicine.

The role involves providing middle-grade support within a multidisciplinary team on a dedicated ward. The successful candidate will conduct independent ward rounds, alongside consultant-led sessions, ensuring comprehensive patient care.

Participation in the on-call rota is expected, currently set at 1:10. The medical assessment unit consists of 21 trolleys/beds and 3 assessment spaces, which the post holder will cover during on-call duties.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is recognized for its innovative approach and commitment to professional development. Successful candidates will have access to training across various medical specialties and accredited courses under the guidance of RCP trainers. Engagement in audit and quality improvement projects is a key component of this position, supported by a dedicated research lead from Cardiff University for those interested in research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include:

  • Delivering effective medical care to inpatients under the supervision of the Consultant Physician.
  • Performing assessments, monitoring progress, and initiating treatments in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Participating in consultant and multidisciplinary ward rounds, while supervising junior medical students rotating through the department.
  • Conducting regular unsupervised ward rounds to ensure patient progress is satisfactory.
  • Completing discharge summaries promptly.
  • Attending clinics as part of ongoing professional development.
  • Engaging in research and service outcome evaluations, with dedicated time allocated for these activities.
