Position Overview

Full-time Band 6 Advanced Resuscitation Specialist - 12-month secondment/fixed-term contract

An exceptional opportunity has emerged within the Resuscitation Service for a full-time Band 6 Advanced Resuscitation Specialist. This role is available as either a secondment or a fixed-term contract for 12 months.

The successful candidate will collaborate with the Resuscitation Service team and assist the Lead Resuscitation Specialists in organizing and delivering resuscitation training throughout the organization. The primary responsibility will be the coordination of adult resuscitation training for all staff categories, including nursing, medical personnel, and allied health professionals.

Additionally, the role may involve supporting the delivery of pediatric resuscitation training.

Applicants must be Advanced Life Support (ALS) certified, as the position entails responding to cardiac arrest and medical emergency calls within the organization.

Main Responsibilities

The post holder will operate under the supervision of the Resuscitation Manager as a specialist practitioner. Their main focus will be on providing resuscitation training through various educational methods. They will be part of the Cardiac Arrest/Medical Emergency team, responding to calls as needed. The role requires close collaboration with the clinical multidisciplinary team, demonstrating a high level of clinical expertise. While primarily based in acute settings, the role will also involve providing coverage at community healthcare facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Contribute to the planning, organization, and execution of resuscitation training and education in line with organizational policies and national guidelines.
  • Function as a member of the resuscitation team, providing specialized clinical guidance and leadership as necessary.
  • Respond to cardiac arrest situations involving adult and pediatric patients, utilizing opportunities to educate and support resuscitation and ward teams.
  • Exhibit a high degree of professional authority, demonstrating advanced clinical competence and decision-making abilities.
  • Support clinical staff in acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills to provide care in critical situations.
  • Engage in research and audits related to resuscitation practices.

Measurable Outcomes:

  • Assist in data collection and analysis related to resuscitation efforts.
  • Contribute to national audits concerning cardiac arrest incidents.
  • Participate in the evaluation of resuscitation equipment and processes.
  • Maintain accurate records of educational activities and emergency responses in accordance with organizational policies.

Communication and Collaboration:

Serve as a point of contact for inquiries related to adult resuscitation training and courses. Foster positive working relationships that encourage effective teamwork and innovation. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and relevant stakeholders, providing support and information as needed.

Clinical Practice:

Promote high-quality, patient-centered care, ensuring adherence to resuscitation standards and contributing to patient safety initiatives. Maintain current knowledge of resuscitation practices through ongoing education and professional development.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Current registration with a UK healthcare professional body.
  • Completion of studies at level 6 (degree or diploma).
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • ALS certification or willingness to undertake relevant training.

Desirable:

  • Teaching and assessing qualifications.
  • ALS/ILS instructor certification.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Clinical experience in acute adult patient care.
  • Experience in resuscitating adult patients in an acute healthcare environment.
  • Ability to manage acute emergencies effectively.
