Liverpool, Liverpool, United Kingdom Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

The Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant in Colorectal Surgery, with a focus on Laparoscopic techniques. This role is initially for a six-month period, with the possibility of extension. We are in search of a motivated and dynamic Consultant who is eager to collaborate with our existing teams to provide exceptional surgical care.

This is an exciting time for our Trust, as we are equipped with a newly constructed facility featuring cutting-edge technology.

Our hospital is dedicated to advancing surgical practices, as evidenced by the innovative services we offer.

Applicants must be on, or nearing entry to, the specialist register (CCT) or possess an equivalent qualification for international candidates, with a proven track record of excellence in technical operations, particularly in colorectal surgery.

A higher postgraduate research degree, such as an MS or MD, is preferred but not mandatory.

Successful candidates will join a well-established team and will be expected to contribute to the development of our future services.

Main Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

The successful candidate will participate in a 1:13 general surgery on-call rota and a 1:6 colorectal on-call schedule. If the candidate holds full or provisional JAG accreditation, they may be asked to conduct endoscopy sessions, which will be negotiated based on individual experience.

Professional Responsibilities

The appointee will maintain ongoing accountability for the effective operation of their role. It is essential that any concerns regarding the professional performance of colleagues are addressed directly. If issues persist, they should be escalated to the Clinical Lead or Associate Medical Director as appropriate.

About the Trust

The Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was established following the merger of two prominent acute Trusts. This merger allows us to reorganize our services to enhance healthcare delivery and improve patient outcomes across the region.

We operate multiple hospitals and serve a diverse population, providing specialized services to a broader catchment area.

Job Responsibilities

We invite applications from qualified individuals for a Locum Consultant in Colorectal/General Surgery within our Division of Surgery. This position is a replacement role within our Colorectal Unit, which consists of ten full-time Consultants. The successful candidate will engage in a busy Specialist Colorectal practice, as well as participate in an Emergency General Surgery rota, addressing acute admissions and providing support to affiliated hospitals.

Additionally, there is an elective General Surgery component, including Day Case Surgery. The appointee will play a crucial role in meeting cancer care targets and should ideally have a strong interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Our center is recognized for its expertise in IBD and is accredited by relevant professional bodies.

Access to advanced surgical technology, including a Da Vinci Robot, is available, along with a well-established Laparoscopic unit supported by experienced surgical assistants.
