Position Overview:
Join Abacus Consulting as a dedicated Assistant Accountant within a thriving small to medium-sized enterprise. This full-time, permanent role offers a competitive salary of up to £40,000 along with excellent benefits.
About the Role:
As an integral member of our Finance team, you will oversee essential accounting functions, including the management of the sales ledger, reconciliation of purchase ledger control accounts, and daily bank reconciliations. Your expertise will also extend to maintaining the fixed assets register and ensuring nominal ledger accuracy, all while supporting the month-end account preparation up to the trial balance stage.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare month-end accounts leading up to the trial balance stage.
- Manage postings and reconciliations for petty cash, company credit card accounts, and staff expense claims.
- Conduct daily bank reconciliations.
- Facilitate supplier payment runs and reconcile supplier statements while investigating any discrepancies.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly payroll.
- Prepare quarterly VAT returns.
- Support month-end closing processes and the annual audit as needed.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations.
- Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Assist with cash flow planning and monitoring of foreign currency.
- Oversee control account reconciliations.
- Issue sales ledger invoices and quotations.
- Process grant claims in accordance with grant contract agreements.
- Provide support to the team in the USA as required.
- Handle deliveries and process them accordingly.
- Maintain the fixed asset register, accruals, and prepayment schedules.
- Answer the main business telephone as needed.
- Assist with the distribution of incoming post.
- Support the finance and admin team with any ad-hoc duties, including general business administration tasks.
Candidate Profile:
This role is ideal for individuals who can work independently, possess relevant experience in a similar capacity, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and exhibit proficiency in Excel. Excellent communication skills are essential.
