About the Role

Lloyd's Register is seeking a highly skilled Fire and Safety Specialist to join our team in Aberdeen, United Kingdom. As a Fire and Safety Specialist, you will play a key role in the Fire and Safety Team, working on design appraisal and type approval of complex fire and safety systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out design appraisal of fire and safety arrangements and systems against codes and standards, within agreed parameters.
  • Type Approve Cryogenic and Passive Fire Protection products to various international codes and standards.
  • Provide technical and regulatory guidance to clients during the design and construction phase.
  • Perform assessments and provide specialist advice for service delivery, research or development work.
  • Apply theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate and maintain engineering products, processes, systems and services.
  • Produce deliverables within agreed parameters in a defined format.
  • Assess and recommend the time and value of work to be undertaken for clients.
  • Discuss and present deliverables with clients and suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.
  • Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
  • Assist in service delivery improvement by communicating client feedback.
  • Coach other employees and disseminate information to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards.
  • Conduct site visits as required to successfully complete projects.
  • Make suggestions to improve service delivery effectiveness through changes to processes or work scope.
  • Assist the business in the bid and win process for new projects by accurately estimating time requirements.
  • Manage and oversee project schedules, financial tracking, contract risk management procedures and issues.
  • Provide visible, proactive HS&E leadership and ensure that all LR Corporate and local HS&E policies and processes are followed.

Requirements

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd's Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science.
  • Minimum 2 years of working experience in a related Fire and Safety Engineering area.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution and working towards achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Possess flexible attitude, effective interpersonal skills, strong analytical skills and technical, commercial and people communication.
  • Proficiency in English language, exceptional communication skills, alertness and attention to detail.
  • Exposure to consultancy, concept/FEED/detailed design and EPC projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of marine, offshore and onshore oil and gas and renewables sectors fire protection products and safety legislation.
  • Experience with Type Approval Certification of fire protection products.
  • Knowledge of SOLAS, other international regulations and industry standards.
  • Exposure in the New Energy/Low Carbon/Energy Transition space would be an advantage.
  • Basic project management techniques are desirable.
