We are seeking an experienced Quarry Manager to oversee the day-to-day activities of our quarrying operation at our site. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with Health and Safety and environmental controls, as well as resource planning. You will manage the site's operational team, including contractors, to achieve optimum production levels, quality, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure the highest Health & Safety standards are maintained to provide a safe working environment.
- Ensure all statutory obligations, company policies, and procedures are understood, applied, and adhered to at all times.
- Maintain quarry production levels safely to schedule and in accordance with the quarry plan.
- Interpret geological and ceramic data to inform extraction decisions.
- Extract clay to the highest safety and environmental standards.
- Plan and construct stockpiles to meet extracting ceramic specification and challenging volume of requirements.
- Manage third-party contractors, company operatives, and road hauliers to ensure supply to internal and external customers.
- Manage costs of the quarry operations and develop budget plans.
- Liaise with internal and external customers in relation to clay quality and production issues.
- Provide problem-solving support to customers in relation to raw material-related production problems.
- Manage the quarry's quality assurance and environmental systems.
- Manage estates, including landscaping, restoration, and aftercare activities.
- Collect, assimilate, and analyze extraction and ceramic data to inform key targets and objectives.
- Project manage defined capex projects.
- Assess alternative clay or raw material sources.
- Participate in quarry health, safety, and environmental audits.
- Manage training requirements of the quarry team.
- Participate in quarry plant and water discharge best practice.
- Establish and track relevant KPIs to continuously improve operational performance.
- Lead and support a continuous improvement culture in all areas of operational management.
- Closely work with Geology, Ceramics Technology, Factory, Planning & Estates teams on raw material optimization projects.
- Liaise and communicate with a wide range of people within the business, members of the community, and regulatory bodies.
- A recognized quarry management qualification or equivalent.
- Practical experience of managing large-scale quarry operations.
- A recognized geological or mining qualification.
- Demonstrable quarry management experience.
- The ability to understand, accept, and achieve targets and deadlines.
- A high degree of computer literacy and numeric skills and a competent user of all Microsoft applications.
- Leadership and people management skills and the ability to motivate.
- Demonstrable ability to implement structured problem-solving techniques and provide solutions.
- The ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the business.
- A high degree of self-motivation.
- Degree educated or equivalent.
- NEBOSH certificated.
- A recognized ceramic qualification.
