Scotland, United Kingdom NHS 24 Full time

Public Health Nurse Practitioner

Are you a skilled Nurse Practitioner seeking a new role in Public Safety?

Do you possess the ability to employ a multi-faceted approach in your decision-making process?

Are you dedicated to collaborating with others to determine the most effective course of action?

About Us

NHS Scotland serves as the exclusive provider of a national tele-health and tele-care service, delivering health advice and information via telephone and online platforms to the people of Scotland around the clock. NHS 24 is a patient-centered service that offers triage, guidance, referrals, and information regarding health and healthcare services.

With six regional centers, NHS 24 promotes hybrid working arrangements, allowing this position to be based at any of the regional centers. The successful candidate must be within a reasonable commuting distance to a regional center for attendance as needed and should be willing to travel to other centers for meetings, training, and other obligations.

Work Schedule

37 hours per week. The Public Protection team primarily operates Monday through Thursday (08:00) and Friday through a hybrid model.

Position Overview

The Public Health Nurse Practitioner will function as an independent practitioner, responsible for following up on public protection referrals during regular hours, evaluating concerns, determining the appropriate course of action, and collaborating with health and social care partners as well as other agencies. You will ensure timely and suitable follow-up of these referrals by prioritizing them based on your expertise in public protection and decision-making capabilities.

Key Duties

Assist the Lead Nurse in the development of the Public Protection Team within NHS 24, fostering relationships with all relevant partner agencies. Evaluate and synthesize all pertinent information to make informed decisions regarding the necessary actions and the appropriate sharing of any patient-identifiable information with external parties, adhering to established protocols. Serve as the patient advocate during the triage process, identifying potential risk factors for patients, their caregivers, and others, such as challenging situations, child protection concerns, or mental health issues. Provide support to front-line staff during peak activity periods by handling calls within the service delivery framework.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

Possess a Degree in Adult Nursing with valid NMC Registration. Demonstrate extensive post-registration experience, ideally in an acute or primary care environment. Have a solid understanding of policies and legislation that underpin public protection practices in Scotland.

Employee Benefits

NHS 24 offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a permanent contract at Band 6, with a salary range of £37,381 - £46,100 per annum (pro rata if applicable). Salary placement is contingent upon verification of prior relevant NHS service.

Additionally, we provide various supportive policies to enhance your employment experience, including a comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme, Cycle to Work Scheme, bursary scheme, and numerous learning and development opportunities. As an NHS Scotland employee, you will be entitled to:

35 days of annual leave (increasing to 41) pro-rata Development opportunities, including study bursaries, e-learning, and classroom-based training Enhanced pay for working on public holidays Enrollment in the Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA) pension scheme NHS discounts on various goods and services Employee support and assistance programs

This role presents an excellent opportunity for a motivated and experienced individual seeking a challenging and fulfilling position that contributes to the success of a public organization.

Equal Opportunity Employer

NHS 24 is committed to advancing equality and particularly encourages applications from groups currently underrepresented in the workforce. We participate in the Disability Confident Leader Scheme and guarantee interviews for all disabled applicants who meet the minimum essential criteria for our vacancies.
