About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Facilities and Technical Support Specialist to join our team at Magna Exteriors Sunderland. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for providing technical support to plant operations and the Injection Moulding Area, ensuring the smooth running of our production processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Validation of contractor-proposed technical solutions to ensure compliance with our quality and safety standards
  • Management of contractor activities, including buy-offs and off-site work
  • Improvement of facilities and equipment to optimize performance and reduce costs
  • Overseeing external contractors engaged in maintenance and equipment installations, ensuring adherence to our policies and procedures
  • Inspecting construction and installation activities to ensure compliance with expected standards and design specifications
  • Developing and implementing the Preventive Maintenance Programme (PPM) for all building systems and the IMM Plant
  • Liaising with the Plant Maintenance and Automation Team as required
  • Maintaining HVAC systems, building fabric, electrical and alarm systems, lighting, and other assets
  • Performing routine inspections, testing, and compliance checks, including daily plant inspections, water temperature checks, fire alarm testing, and emergency kit inspections
  • Ensuring the integrity of the IMM process and completing IMM checks as required
  • Ensuring adequate supplies, materials, consumables, tools, and critical spares are available for maintenance and repair
  • Assisting contractors with planning and oversight of PPM and reactive works
  • Ensuring the building meets relevant health and safety standards and legislative requirements, working with the HSE department
  • Promptly responding to employee-generated maintenance requests
  • Assisting with refurbishments, relocations, and office space management operations
  • Maintaining detailed and accurate records and preparing clear and concise written reports
  • Assisting with disaster recovery planning and emergency response coordination
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Ensuring all documentation is accurately completed and stored for audits
Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
  • Adhering to health and safety aspects in all tasks and extending to all affected personnel, internal and external
  • Complying with Health and Safety and Environmental Policies
  • Ensuring compliance with IATF 16949 and Environmental and Health and Safety standards in line with current certification
  • Participating in accident investigation activities and ensuring near-miss reporting
  • Adhering to Lockout Tagout Procedure (where applicable)
  • Complying with the Safe System of Work documents (RAMS)
  • Ensuring all contractors are signed in with the correct work permits
  • Participating in 5S processes and procedures with your area of responsibility
  • To ensure all team members wear appropriate PPE
  • Taking appropriate actions in emergency situations
Timing
  • Using and suggesting improvements to Facilities equipment to improve performance and reduce running costs, such as energy efficiency
  • Supporting performance through work requests
  • Using the secure spares inventory/replenishment system in a methodical and organized manner, ensuring all services and goods are received and booked in correctly
  • Supporting installation projects for new technology and equipment
  • Using the escalation procedure for any issues/concerns, such as quality or downtime
Cost
  • Participating in continuous improvement projects to improve departmental performance on safety, uptime, availability, maintenance, equipment modifications, plant, error proofing, technical systems, and processes, and cost-down opportunities
  • Participating in the company's CIP scheme
  • Reducing waste within the maintenance processes
  • Reducing energy consumption through initiatives and controls, ensuring weekend hours are minimized for energy consumption

  • HNC in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics or similar

  • Experience of working with Injection Moulding and Tooling

  • Experience with using Microsoft Office
  • Behaving in a professional manner
