Mechanical Engineering Director

Randstad Tech IT is seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead our team of mechanical engineers in the design and development of manufacturing equipment. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for leading, empowering, and motivating our team to achieve successful project milestones.
Main Responsibilities- Lead Mechanical Engineering Activities: Oversee the mechanical engineering activities across applicable projects, ensuring that our teams work cohesively and collaborate effectively to achieve project goals.
- Advocate Best Practices: Advocate and lead the adoption of best practice mechanical engineering across applicable projects to improve the delivery of the engineering function to time, cost, quality, and specification.
- Ensure Product Development: Ensure that the mechanical engineering of product development meets requirements from stakeholders through to subsystem-level requirements, with effective validation and verification plans in place.
- Lead Budgets and Forecasting: Lead the mechanical engineering budgets for people and financial resources and contribute to the development of future forecasting with the Senior Engineering Manager.
- Drive Innovation: Drive innovation, identifying IP opportunities and threats, for new products, maintaining an awareness of competitors and wider industry solutions.
- Expert Advice and Mentoring: Offer expert advice to other engineers, including supporting the training and development of engineers through formal and informal mentoring, effective professional development plans, including where applicable professional registration.
- More than 10 years' experience of practical application of best-practice Mechanical Engineering in a relatable engineering industry.
- Significant experience working in a regulated, compliance-driven industry with a strong understanding of product safety and compliance.
- Experience of recruiting, interviewing, and hiring Mechanical Engineers, both from an emerging internal talent pool and external for experienced hiring.
- Experience of tutoring/instructing best-practice Mechanical Engineering.
- Excellent influencing and negotiation skills at multiple organisational levels.
- Displays clear leadership behaviours, takes ownership, and control of a situation and brings people with them even though they may not be direct reports.
- High level of integrity and accountability with a results-driven mindset, able to set the standard, and hold people accountable to deliver.
- Project and budget management skills.
- Experience of effectively coaching others.
- Able to 'teach' best-practice Mechanical Engineering and transfer accumulated knowledge.
This is a full-time permanent position with a salary bracket of £65,000-£75,000 depending on experience, plus a 7.5% annual bonus and other benefits. The role also comes with the option for hybrid working.
