Global Advocacy Support Specialist

London, Greater London, United Kingdom IPPF Full time
Location:

This position is available globally and can be based in various locations.

Role Objective:
  • To oversee a multi-national advocacy initiative funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) aimed at improving the legislative and policy framework supporting sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), safe abortion, comprehensive sexuality education (CSE), and gender equality at global, national, and local levels.
  • To collaborate with other relevant funded initiatives, ensuring coordination, alignment, and synergy.
Role Context:

Numerous individuals worldwide continue to face barriers in accessing high-quality, rights-based sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. There is a growing global and national resistance to SRHR, compounded by a world vulnerable to natural disasters and conflicts. Access to abortion care is frequently underfunded, stigmatized, and criminalized, with significant obstacles preventing safe abortion services, particularly for marginalized and economically disadvantaged communities. Coordinated opposition is also hindering the delivery of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), which is vital for the well-being and protection of children and young people. Anti-rights and anti-gender movements are increasingly undermining all aspects of SRHR, creating substantial barriers to the realization of rights.

IPPF assists Member Associations (MAs) in fostering and advocating for a supportive environment for abortion care and CSE. By engaging closely with key stakeholders and communities, particularly those often excluded from conventional health systems, MAs work to transform social norms, policies, and legislation that restrict access to abortion information and services. IPPF facilitates connections between MAs and progressive movements across nations in critical spaces to exchange practices, strategies, tools, and insights.

About IPPF

The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is a global provider of sexual and reproductive health services and a leading advocate for universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for all. We are a worldwide network of 149 national organizations working collaboratively with communities and individuals, having delivered over 1 billion cumulative services in recent years.

We are currently seeking individuals to contribute to our Come Together–Strategy 2028, aimed at revolutionizing IPPF and enhancing our capacity to support SRHR for those who are marginalized or excluded. The Come Together initiative commits IPPF to influencing laws, policies, and norms through feminist action and international solidarity, while also strengthening the federation to drive real and lasting impact.

Action is imperative. We have made significant contributions and stood for justice and equality. We are dedicated to more bold and feminist actions that ensure choices regarding our bodies, sexual lives, and overall well-being. Everyone deserves a fulfilling and healthy sexual life, free from violence, shame, or criminalization. We affirm that love is love, and we unite in support of women, youth, and marginalized individuals through the care we provide, the actions we undertake, and the solidarity we cultivate.

  • IPPF is an equal-opportunity employer. As a prominent global human rights organization focused on equality, empowerment, and the eradication of discrimination and poverty, we reflect social justice principles internally.
  • We foster a multicultural, multilingual, intergenerational, and diverse work environment. Applications are particularly encouraged from women, individuals living with HIV, those with disabilities, and individuals with diverse sexual orientations and gender identities.
  • IPPF is committed to the safety and protection of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, and our recruitment and selection procedures reflect this commitment. We expect all employees, volunteers, contractors, and partners to share this commitment, and all individuals employed by IPPF agree to adhere to our Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policy.

IPPF has been made aware of various fraudulent job announcements circulated via email from websites falsely claiming to be associated with IPPF. These communications, which may attempt to solicit money from recipients, are fraudulent, and IPPF does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process.
