To spearhead these initiatives, they are seeking a new Head of Production to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and uphold quality standards throughout the production process.
The Role – Head of Production
Located in a modern facility, the Head of Production plays a crucial role within the organization, reporting directly to the Operations Director. This position oversees a dedicated team of production operatives, planners, and coordinators.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive and seasoned leader in production management, particularly within the print sector. Responsibilities encompass the entire production lifecycle, from sourcing raw materials and scheduling print jobs to overseeing manufacturing, finishing, and stock delivery. The successful individual will ensure that production is executed efficiently, punctually, within budget, and adheres to the highest quality benchmarks. This role demands exceptional leadership capabilities, strategic insight, and a hands-on approach to optimize production processes while cultivating a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and execute a comprehensive production strategy that aligns with the organization's objectives.
- Identify and implement opportunities for process enhancements, automation, cost savings, and efficiency improvements within the manufacturing domain.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the production team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability while establishing clear performance expectations.
- Collaborate with the design studio to devise product launch strategies, manage stock build programs, and minimize waste through effective product lifecycle management.
- Enhance operational performance to boost efficiency and profitability while overseeing subcontractors to ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Build and inspire a high-performing team, ensuring effective recruitment, training, and development practices are in place.
- Refine production methodologies and reduce waste through continuous process improvement.
- Establish and enforce quality control protocols to guarantee that all products meet or exceed established standards.
- Manage financial planning, budgets, and forecasts for the production department.
- Promote a safe working environment and conduct regular safety audits to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity within a similarly sized printing organization.
- A proven history of successfully transforming and enhancing manufacturing operations.
- NEBOSH and safety certifications are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Extensive expertise in production planning within a comparable manufacturing environment, preferably in print.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to execute tactical plans effectively.
- A charismatic leader capable of empowering and motivating team members.
