Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Metrology Engineer to join our team in Barrow-in-Furness. As a key member of our Calibration department, you will be responsible for leading the dimensional calibration team and ensuring the accuracy and precision of our measurements.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the dimensional calibration team and ensure the accuracy and precision of our measurements.
  2. Perform high-end calibrations and repairs on a wide variety of dimensional test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).
  3. Design, review, and approve calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets.
  4. Take part in quality audits and achieve UKAS signatory status.
  5. Drive the increase in issue of UKAS/ISO 17025 accredited parameters and certification.
Requirements:
  1. Extensive experience working in a precision dimensional calibration/metrology laboratory environment.
  2. Understanding of quality systems and standards (ISO 17025/ISO 9001).
  3. Relevant academic qualification (STEM degree, HNC/HND) or equivalent.
Desirable:
  1. Existing UKAS signatory status for dimensional calibration.
  2. Knowledge in creation of measurement uncertainty budgets to ISO 17025 level.
  3. Demonstrable use of automation software (PC Dimis, Fluke Metcal, Met/Track, Met/Teams, Labview).
  4. Experience in mechanical, electrical, temperature, and other engineering calibrations.

About the Role:

The Calibration department currently supports 30,000 pieces of equipment per year, ranging from traditional analogue equipment to state-of-the-art digital systems. Our team consists of around 8+ members, and we offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
