About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Gardener to oversee and maintain the grounds of a private estate in the UK. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for planning and executing all aspects of garden maintenance, ensuring the highest standards of horticultural practices are maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive garden maintenance plans to ensure the estate's grounds are well-manicured and visually appealing.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of external contractors, ensuring projects are completed to a high standard and within budget.
  • Manage and maintain a team of gardeners, providing guidance and support to ensure they are equipped to perform their duties effectively.
  • Collaborate with the estate's management team to ensure the garden's maintenance aligns with the estate's overall vision and objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a deep knowledge of plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs, staying up-to-date with the latest horticultural practices and techniques.
  • Ensure the estate's garden is safe and secure, adhering to health and safety regulations and best practices.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within a private estate or high-end residential setting.
  • Horticultural qualification at RHS Level 3 or above.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor as required.
  • Strong competency in the use of landscaping and garden machinery.
  • Familiarity with the maintenance of plants, lawns, and trees.
  • Experience of coordinating and supervising external contractors.
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations related to estate garden and woodland maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and organizational skills.
