Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom Cubiq Recruitment Full time

Hello, I'm Brendan from Cubiq Recruitment.

We are currently seeking a Lead Integrated Photonics Engineer for a prominent client in the Quantum Computing sector located in Cambridge, UK.

In this pivotal role, you will oversee a team of 5-7 skilled professionals engaged in research and development aimed at creating rapid, low-loss single-photon compatible integrated photonic components and innovative quantum circuit designs. You will play a crucial role in advancing Quantum Photonic Integrated Circuits (Q-PICs) that are set to revolutionize quantum networking and interconnect technologies.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing integrated photonics components and circuits incorporating both active and passive elements.
  • Establishing measurement setups and preparing interfaces for PIC characterization.
  • Conducting characterization measurements of both active and passive devices on integrated photonics platforms.
  • Contributing to the design and modeling of photonic devices for applications in quantum technology.

Our client is dedicated to commercializing research from the Cavendish Laboratory and is committed to shaping the future of quantum information systems. They are developing groundbreaking technology to enhance and expedite quantum computing systems, integrating novel quantum photonic technology to create an efficient and scalable quantum networking framework.

Key Requirements:

  • A postgraduate degree in Physics or Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with optical and electro-optical characterization of photonic components and circuits.
  • A solid understanding of low-loss optical coupling from fiber to photonic chip.
  • Proficiency in CAD design software (e.g., IPKISS, NAZCA, GDSPY, GDS Factory).
  • Previous experience collaborating with external PIC foundries on quantum applications.
  • Familiarity with photonics device and circuit simulation software (e.g., Ansys Lumerical).
  • Experience in modeling and RF measurement in integrated microwave photonics.
  • Proficient scripting skills (e.g., Python) for measurement and data analysis.
  • Commercial experience in integrated photonics within a Quantum application or networking context.

You are encouraged to consider this opportunity if:

  • You have a passion for quantum technology and its transformative potential in computing.
  • You possess a proven history of delivering high-quality projects and demonstrating technical leadership.
  • You enjoy mentoring and guiding junior engineers.
  • You can effectively communicate complex topics to senior management and represent the organization externally.
  • You thrive in a collaborative setting, engaging with external partners and preparing reports.

This role may not be suitable for you if:

  • You prefer established technologies over cutting-edge research.
  • You are uncomfortable with the fast-paced and evolving landscape of quantum technology.
  • You are not open to relocation.
  • You lack commercial experience in integrated photonics related to Quantum applications or networking.

About Our Client:

Our client is at the forefront of developing the future of quantum information systems, beginning with technology that enhances the utility and accelerates the market readiness of quantum computing systems. They collaborate with leading companies and academic institutions to integrate innovative quantum photonic technology, forming an efficient and scalable quantum networking infrastructure.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary package.
  • Visa sponsorship available.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Opportunities for career advancement and personal development.
  • Engagement in pioneering quantum technology projects.

Interview Process:

  1. Initial phone screening.
  2. Technical assessment.
  3. Presentation stage.

Our client values diversity and is committed to providing all employees with opportunities for employment, career, and personal development based on their abilities and potential. They believe that everyone can contribute fresh ideas and approaches that enhance workplace effectiveness and efficiency.

If you are prepared to lead advancements in quantum photonics and influence the future of computing, we look forward to your application.
