Supplier Quality Assurance Lead

As a key player in our supply chain, you will deliver essential quality assurance support for new product introductions by overseeing and reporting on suppliers' Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) initiatives. Your role will involve creating and maintaining inspection protocols for incoming components, reviewing and approving suppliers' Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and Part Submission Warrant (PSW) submissions, while ensuring comprehensive records of these approvals are maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess the capabilities of both new and existing component suppliers to ensure they can consistently produce defect-free products at the required volumes.
- Facilitate the seamless launch of new products within the supply chain.
- Enhance the performance of underperforming suppliers through collaborative improvement initiatives, minimizing the risk of production disruptions and ensuring sales targets are met.
- Promptly review and authorize PPAP submissions, maintain accurate records, and update departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Organize both internal and external measurements and data analyses (part and process) as necessary to validate PPAP submissions.
- Develop and uphold inspection plans for incoming components.
- Request and expedite supplier 8D reports for any nonconforming components.
- Lead root cause analysis with suppliers as needed, ensuring the effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Act as a Supplier Development Engineer when necessary, collaborating with the Systems Team and selected suppliers to achieve the desired quality standards.
- Ensure that parts and processes utilize tools such as Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Measurement System Analysis, Value Stream Mapping, Control Plans, and work instructions.
- Serve as the Quality representative within the supplier network through strong leadership, coaching, and engagement.
- Drive and influence both internal and external stakeholders to meet the company's Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD) objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Engineering or a recognized qualification in Quality Management.
- Qualified ISO 9001 auditor, preferably with lead assessor experience.
- Prior experience in Supplier Quality within the automotive manufacturing sector or a similar industry.
- Proficient in New Product Introduction (NPI) and managing suppliers to meet quality standards throughout the product lifecycle.
- Ability to lead, influence, and support teams with a positive approach.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively.
- Familiarity with IATF 16949 and Core Tools.
- Experienced in quality methodologies and tools, including but not limited to Global 8D, Ishikawa diagrams, 5 Whys, and Pareto analysis.
- Knowledgeable in metrology, inspection techniques, and equipment, along with a solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Able to accurately interpret 3D CAD and 2D drawings.
- Experience with various manufacturing processes.
- Capable of conducting robust statistical analyses.
- Ability to present data clearly and effectively.
- Skilled in planning and prioritizing tasks, with the ability to work autonomously.
- Willingness to travel at short notice to suppliers, both within the UK and internationally.
- Possession of a full clean driving license.
Advantageous Qualifications
- IATF 16949 certification.
- VDA 6.3 auditor certification.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
