Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic full-time Oncology Nutrition Specialist to become a vital part of our collaborative dietetic team. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about oncology and eager to enhance their expertise across various cancer types and treatment modalities.

As a member of a prestigious cancer treatment facility, you will have the chance to work with a diverse array of cancer cases, including specialized surgical procedures, hematology, stem cell transplants, and CAR-T therapy, in addition to chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiotherapy techniques. You will engage with both inpatient and outpatient populations, particularly focusing on head and neck and upper gastrointestinal outpatient rotations. This position offers a structured rotation with disease-specific competencies, allowing you to build a solid foundation for your career as a clinical specialist. Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will possess recent acute oncology experience and advanced skills in nutritional support, including enteral and parenteral feeding, complemented by exceptional organizational and communication abilities.

Key duties include:

  • Supporting senior dietitians in clinical settings while managing your own patient caseload.
  • Conducting nutritional assessments of oncology patients by analyzing anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, and dietary data, while considering their social and cultural contexts, prognosis, and treatment plans.
  • Delivering complex dietary guidance and lifestyle modifications to patients and their caregivers using advanced counseling techniques.
  • Identifying malnutrition and/or the risk of Refeeding Syndrome, collaborating with relevant consultants to optimize treatment outcomes through appropriate nutritional interventions.
  • Participating in ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings to provide expert nutritional advice to healthcare professionals based on clinical evidence.
  • Coordinating with nursing staff, allied health professionals, and catering services to implement dietary prescriptions effectively.
  • Prescribing tailored dietary regimens based on evidence-based practices and managing, monitoring, and adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
  • Facilitating the setup of home enteral feeding to ensure safe patient discharge.
  • Referring patients to appropriate care levels for ongoing monitoring and therapeutic support post-discharge.
  • Collaborating with catering services to ensure meal provisions meet the unique needs of oncology patients in accordance with national standards.
  • Designing, delivering, and evaluating educational sessions on nutrition and specialized dietetics for healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers.
  • Acting as a clinical educator by engaging in student dietetic placements.
  • Contributing to the research, development, implementation, and auditing of departmental resources, ensuring alignment with evidence-based practices.
  • Maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient documentation in compliance with local and national standards.
  • Participating in departmental meetings and trust nutrition-related discussions, leading when necessary.
  • Taking responsibility for your own professional development to maintain competency and ensure best practices.
