Job Title: Digital Electronics Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Digital Electronics Engineer to join our team at People Source Consulting trading as Experis. As a key member of our product development team, you will be responsible for designing and developing electronic hardware and embedded software for our sensor and systems product solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage projects to develop sensor & system products to customers' sites across Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Nuclear, Fossil Fuel Energy and Process Control following the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process.
  • PCBA design, appraisal and prototyping to ISO 13485 design control and compliance, selecting appropriate components and with robust layout.
  • Specifying design requirements for electronic hardware, including in wireless and wired communication, data storage, power management and integrating with analogue ultrasonic modules.
  • Liaise with suppliers and produce bill-of-materials for new board designs.
  • Firmware appraisal, modification, development, validation and verification.
  • Diagnose performance of PCBA designs and components, testing prototypes for correct functionality, compliance and certification, and ensure operational testing once in manufacture.
  • Fault finding and repair of PCBAs and finished devices. Support existing hardware in operational use.
  • Debugging and customer led modifications to software and capability.
  • Leading electronics design development within the scope of ATEX and IECEx explosive environment requirements.
  • Become a technical expert in the application of the technology with a strong focus on the needs of the customer.
  • Provide technical advice to specified clients as part of the business development process, supporting and working with sales and technical colleagues.
  • Present progress and feedback from development activities to technical and commercial colleagues to support product development.
  • Support the technical marketing activity and generate data to support presentations, case studies and marketing communications.
Requirements:
  • At least 5 years experience of designing digital circuits including using embedded processors and FPGAs, digital signal processing and filtering.
  • Demonstrable understanding of modern design simulation and verification tools.
  • Programming of embedded software / firmware in a common language, such as C /C++.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, sensors and monitoring system products within the Oil & Gas, Energy and Process Control sectors.
  • Experience of working under a quality management system, including documentation control, change and configuration management.
  • Excellent project management skills and experience of successful project delivery.
  • Good communication skills to articulate aspects of electronics development to other engineering disciplines.
  • Entrepreneurial, innovative and resourceful, able to work independently to meet deadlines within a small team, working in a dynamic SME environment.
  • Comfortable helping with any tasks and learning new skills in other engineering areas.
Desirable Skills and Attributes:
  • A degree or equivalent in Electronic Engineering or related field.
  • Experience of analogue circuits, especially ultrasonics.
  • Knowledge or experience in 4-20mA, ModBus or HART wired – or WirelessHART, Bluetooth or LoRa wireless communication.
  • Experience of EMC management and testing.
  • Knowledge of intrinsically safe circuits.
  • Experience of meeting compliance to standards and technical file control.
