Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is actively seeking a Healthcare Cleaning Operative for our Residential Accommodations.
This role involves a commitment of 16 hours per week, with a schedule that includes Monday and Friday, along with flexible hours during the week.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be tasked with executing specific cleaning and related responsibilities, adhering to established procedures and standards to ensure a high level of cleanliness throughout the hospital and its designated wards or departments.
The primary duties include:
- General cleaning tasks.
- Isolation cleaning procedures.
- High and low dusting activities.
- Wet and dry mopping.
- Cleaning of toilets, baths, and washbasins.
- Emptying clinical and general waste bins and disposing of bags in designated areas.
- Vacuum cleaning operations.
- Scrubbing and buffing floors using mechanical equipment.
- Carpet shampooing tasks.
- Responsible use of chemicals and cleaning equipment in compliance with health and safety guidelines.
- Ensuring safety for staff and the public through appropriate use of warning signage during cleaning.
Comprehensive training will be provided to the selected candidate.

Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team to maintain high cleaning standards in both clinical and non-clinical areas.
- Execute cleaning tasks in accordance with Trust policy and national cleaning standards.
- Deliver cleaning services following approved methods, standards, and frequencies.
- Support terminal cleans/infection cleans while adhering to infection control procedures related to all cleaning duties.
- Manage the removal and cleaning of uncontained body fluid spillages in line with Trust policy and national cleaning standards.
- Operate cleaning equipment and machinery responsibly and report any defects to the Supervisor.
- When required, undertake Bioquell Q50- HPV decontamination duties, ensuring compliance with all methods and responsibilities.
- Maintain a flexible approach to domestic duties as needed.
Candidate Profile
Knowledge
Essential
- Understanding the significance of cleaning within a healthcare environment.
- Familiarity with using electrical cleaning equipment (vacuum, steam cleaner, buffer, floor scrubber-dryer, carpet cleaner).
Desirable
- Awareness of Infection Control precautions (hand washing, color coding, PPE, hygiene).
- Knowledge of safe chemical usage (COSHH) and Health & Safety protocols.
Skills
Essential
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
- Understanding of the cleaning and domestic assistant role.
- Effective communication skills with a diverse range of individuals.
- Ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet service needs, including working on Bank Holidays.
Desirable
- Capability to use cleaning equipment, maneuver beds for cleaning, handle refuse sacks, and endure long periods of standing.
- Basic IT skills for completing Trust e-learning and managing annual leave requests.
