Position Summary:

The Rail Engineering Projects Testing and Commissioning Team is a dynamic and expanding group, eager to adopt modern systems, processes, and concepts within the necessary regulatory framework. We are looking for a proactive and organized individual to oversee the principles testing of various projects, regardless of their size or complexity. You should be capable of performing under pressure and demonstrating initiative in a highly regulated setting. Do you possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels? Do you have extensive experience and knowledge of signaling fundamentals and compliance testing across a variety of interlocking systems? This role involves a mix of office-based design workstation testing and site-based project work, which may require occasional travel and unsocial hours. A full UK driving license is essential.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in Railway Signaling Testing/Commissioning across diverse project sizes.
  • IRSE License for Principles and Functional Testing.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Network Rail Signal Works Testing Handbook.
  • Comprehensive understanding of fundamental testing requirements.
  • A1 IRSE assessor for Principles Testing (preferred).
  • Significant experience in Railway Signaling, particularly in the Rules of signaling testing for Computer-Based Interlocking schemes.
  • Knowledge of conventional free-wired and/or geographical systems (preferred).
  • Familiarity with Railway Group NWR company standards.
  • Strong personnel management and communication skills.
  • Able to perform under pressure during critical commissioning phases.
  • Current Driving License.
  • Capable of deputizing for the Testing & Commissioning Engineer (Principles).
  • Willingness to work flexibly and efficiently in support of project goals.
  • Ability to contribute to the management team, guiding the development and future direction of the testing group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the fundamentals testing and commissioning of new and modified signaling systems for major works testing of significant signaling projects.
  • Perform testing duties within the scope of your Certificate of Competency.
  • Represent the company at client meetings.
  • Identify resource needs for your projects, ensuring competent staff are briefed on their responsibilities and that necessary documentation is completed.
  • Encourage and promote staff development as a pathway to self-improvement.
  • Act as a deputy for the Testing & Commissioning Engineer (Principles).
  • Provide project principles testing status updates to the Testing & Commissioning Engineer and project team as required.
  • Ensure compliance with company rail standards, procedures, and processes across all engineering, safety, administrative, and project requirements.
  • Collaborate on quality, safety, and environmental objectives, contributing to the commitment to continual improvement.
  • Manage principles testing activities as part of the commissioning of signaling equipment to meet contract specifications and safety standards.
  • Prepare and verify bids for accuracy and pricing related to the basics testing portion of signaling projects.
  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of processes, procedures, innovations, and initiatives.
