This role will initially be positioned within Ofgem's Markets directorate, specifically focusing on the Retail Market Operations team. This team addresses a diverse range of policy matters impacting the entire energy sector, including codes, energy theft, gas and electricity regulations, data security, and the oversight of smart technology-related consumer issues.

In this capacity, you will take the lead in a designated policy area, providing comprehensive knowledge and strategic guidance to facilitate informed decision-making and ongoing enhancements. You will continuously develop your expertise and collaborate across Ofgem to align with organizational objectives. Your ability to effectively communicate the advantages, challenges, and trade-offs associated with policy proposals will be vital in engaging both Ofgem colleagues and sector stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a specific policy domain, ensuring thorough knowledge and strategic oversight to enhance decision-making and foster continuous improvement.
  • Drive the ongoing development of your expertise, policy proposals, research, and stakeholder perspectives within your designated area.
  • Collaborate across Ofgem to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and respond effectively to evolving circumstances.
  • Deliver high-quality, timely analysis of core issues and policy alternatives, resulting in evidence-based recommendations.
  • Manage key projects, ensuring effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders while prioritizing and delivering on objectives.
  • Ensure that decision-makers are informed of relevant legislation and regulatory considerations, escalating critical issues as necessary to uphold consumer interests.

Essential Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of industry codes, particularly in the context of smart metering, data security, and associated regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in policy development, including the ability to analyze complex issues and collaborate with analytical and legal experts to formulate solutions.
  • Proven track record of managing projects under tight deadlines, demonstrating adaptability to changing circumstances.
