Position Overview
As a pivotal member of Ofgem's Infrastructure group, you will play a crucial role in shaping policies that promote a sustainable and equitable energy framework for the UK. Your expertise will be essential in driving the transition towards Net Zero.
Ofgem, as the regulatory authority for the energy sector, is committed to ensuring fair pricing, enhancing resilience, facilitating infrastructure investments, and implementing effective market reforms. Our mission is to serve consumers while collaborating with various industry stakeholders. The significance of our policy initiatives cannot be overstated; they safeguard consumer interests, empower businesses, and influence the broader energy landscape.
This role will initially be positioned within Ofgem's Markets directorate, specifically focusing on the Retail Market Operations team. This team addresses a diverse range of policy matters impacting the entire energy sector, including codes, energy theft, gas and electricity regulations, data security, and the oversight of smart technology-related consumer issues.
In this capacity, you will take the lead in a designated policy area, providing comprehensive knowledge and strategic guidance to facilitate informed decision-making and ongoing enhancements. You will continuously develop your expertise and collaborate across Ofgem to align with organizational objectives. Your ability to effectively communicate the advantages, challenges, and trade-offs associated with policy proposals will be vital in engaging both Ofgem colleagues and sector stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a specific policy domain, ensuring thorough knowledge and strategic oversight to enhance decision-making and foster continuous improvement.
- Drive the ongoing development of your expertise, policy proposals, research, and stakeholder perspectives within your designated area.
- Collaborate across Ofgem to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and respond effectively to evolving circumstances.
- Deliver high-quality, timely analysis of core issues and policy alternatives, resulting in evidence-based recommendations.
- Manage key projects, ensuring effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders while prioritizing and delivering on objectives.
- Ensure that decision-makers are informed of relevant legislation and regulatory considerations, escalating critical issues as necessary to uphold consumer interests.
Essential Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of industry codes, particularly in the context of smart metering, data security, and associated regulations.
- Demonstrated experience in policy development, including the ability to analyze complex issues and collaborate with analytical and legal experts to formulate solutions.
- Proven track record of managing projects under tight deadlines, demonstrating adaptability to changing circumstances.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with stakeholders, fostering open and constructive dialogue.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, capable of conveying complex information to diverse audiences.
- Comprehensive understanding of the energy system and market dynamics, along with a commitment to consumer advocacy.
Work Environment and Benefits
At Ofgem, we prioritize the professional growth and support of our dedicated team members. You can expect a competitive benefits package, including a robust pension scheme, extensive training opportunities, and a collaborative work environment that values diversity and inclusion. We offer flexible working arrangements and a shared commitment to achieving our ambitious goals for a sustainable energy future.
