London, Greater London, United Kingdom Markel International Services Ltd Full time

Role Overview:

In this pivotal position, you will oversee the management of MINT's ceded reinsurance programs after placement, ensuring the optimization of the reinsurance asset while maintaining precise documentation.

About the Opportunity:

The Reinsurance and Business Accounting divisions are integral to our global finance operations. We leverage a structured and scalable framework to reduce aged receivables and enhance the ceded reinsurance asset. This approach allows us to fully capitalize on our reinsurance expenditures, ensure balance sheet reliability, generate cash flow, and positively influence the profit and loss statement. Our focus is on data integrity and process enhancement, utilizing digital tools to streamline daily operations.

The Reinsurance team manages and oversees all facets of Markel's ceded reinsurance program post-placement. The Business Accounting team is tasked with debt collection, balance settlements, billing, invoicing, technical accounting, and reporting.

We are committed to fostering employee wellbeing and support a flexible work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish reinsurance risks within our systems, ensuring accurate recording and maintenance of policy terms.
  • Guarantee that reinsurance premiums and associated expenses are properly documented, communicated, and settled in accordance with contractual obligations.
  • Ensure timely and precise calculation and issuance of reinsurance recoveries for both settled claims and outstanding reserves, addressing any inquiries within five business days of receipt. Accurately log all reinsurance recoveries in core systems.
  • Build strong relationships with colleagues across the organization and externally to facilitate the swift receipt of reinsurance funds.
  • Assist the Actuarial and Finance teams with all aspects of financial reporting, providing insightful management information and data analytics.
  • Meet all internal and external reporting requirements within specified deadlines.
  • Identify significant issues promptly and oversee their resolution.
  • Exhibit a thorough understanding of the reinsurance process and the internal controls supporting it, including compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) standards.

Essential Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Prior experience in the insurance sector with a solid understanding of insurance and reinsurance principles. Experience in London Markets is advantageous but not essential.
  • A proactive mindset open to growth and innovation, welcoming new ideas and suggestions.
  • A foundational understanding of accounting principles and practices, with the ability to interpret and analyze reinsurance contract language to accurately assess coverage applicability.
  • A results-driven attitude, motivated to achieve success and actively pursue personal development. A willingness to learn is crucial, and pursuing accounting or insurance qualifications is encouraged.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively at all business levels, including interactions with external partners.
  • Robust numerical and analytical capabilities, with demonstrated examples of effective application.
  • Flexibility and experience in managing high volumes of work with shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Excel and MS Office is required, with experience in Eclipse, Oracle, Phinsys, and Alteryx being beneficial.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive starting salary along with an annual bonus and comprehensive benefits package.
  • 25 days of paid vacation plus public holidays, with options to buy or sell additional leave.
  • Excellent pension scheme, private medical and dental insurance, life assurance, travel insurance, income protection, season ticket loans, and other attractive benefits.
  • Numerous opportunities for skill development and career advancement, with the necessary support provided.

Markel's Commitment:

Markel values the contributions of a diverse workforce, drawing on a wide range of experiences and backgrounds. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply, regardless of their background. We are also open to considering candidates seeking flexible working arrangements.

As an equal-opportunity employer, we embrace diversity and do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, sex, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
