Job Description

Teaching Personnel is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead English Teacher to join our team at a non-profit independent special school in Westbury. As a Lead English Teacher, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a tailored English curriculum that meets the diverse needs of students with special educational needs (SEN).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Design and implement a comprehensive English curriculum that caters to the unique needs of SEN students.
  • Lesson Planning and Delivery: Deliver engaging and differentiated English lessons using various strategies and resources to support individual learning styles and needs.
  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess student progress, set learning goals, and adapt teaching methods to ensure all students make progress.
  • Staff Support and Development: Provide guidance and support to other teachers and teaching assistants in delivering English lessons and meeting SEN students' needs.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement positive behaviour management strategies that support a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other staff, including SEN coordinators, therapists, and support staff, to ensure holistic support for each student.
  • Training and Development: Lead training and development sessions for staff on effective English teaching strategies and SEN best practices.
  • Parent Communication: Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, challenges, and achievements.
  • Resource Development: Develop and manage resources for English teaching, ensuring they are accessible and appropriate for SEN students.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher (QTS/QTLS/PGCE) preferred but other recognised teaching qualification considered.
  • Experience: Experience of teaching to secondary class/group.
  • Teaching Style: Ability to prepare and deliver appropriate curriculum using a range of teaching styles and methodologies.
  • SEN Experience: Experience within an SEN setting an advantage.
